Sam and his twin brother Alex started riding a motorcycle at age six. Both started with motocross and at age twelve they jumped to speed competing in British championships.

In 2014 Sam Lowes appeared on the grid of the Moto2 World Championship after winning the World Champion 600 the previous year. After a first year of learning, the British one won his first World Cup victory in 2015 by winning the Circuit of the Americas.

Four more podiums with the Speed Up structure served him to make the Federal Oil Gresini sign him for 2016. Lowes started as one of the favourites for the title and finished the year in fifth position with two wins and six podiums.

Together with Gresini he made the leap to the Queen category, where he rode an Aprilia in 2017. In 2018 he returned to the intermediate category to pilot the KTM of the Swiss Innovative Investors. In 2019 he changed teams and motorcycle to wear again the colours of Federal Oil Gresini and fought on the back of his Kalex.
