Alex Rins and Alex Marquez return to action this weekend at Silverstone, looking to keep cutting points gap to overall leader.
The Silverstone Circuit, located at the site of a former airport built in World War II, will be the scene for the twelfth round of the Moto3 World Championship this weekend. At the most recent Moto3 contest, held at Brno, Alex Marquez claimed fourth and was just off the podium, whilst teammate Rins placed ninth after a costly mistake. The Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 riders will look to take advantage of their experience from last season’s British GP to battle for the podium again.
Alex Marquez has four podiums and two pole positions from the eleven races held so far this season, taking him to second position in the overall standings with 146 points. He is 23 off the current leader, Jack Miller. Across the garage, teammate Alex Rins has taken three podiums and two pole positions and lies fifth overall with 125 points – 44 from the top spot.
The first free practice session for the Moto3 British Grand Prix will take place on Friday from 9:00am local time.
Alex Rins
«This week off between races has been good for us to get stronger for Silverstone. We have to keep in mind this is a very fast circuit, but one where it rains often. It has a couple of slow corners but, overall, it is faster than it is slow and I think that helps us. We have to go there with the mentality of giving our all, right from the first practice session. I am really motivated for this Grand Prix».
Alex Marquez
«Silverstone circuit suited us very well last year. There are many twisty corners and flowing chicanes, but I think it could be a good track for us. We lost a little time at some point and we have to try to give our best in every session as we did at Brno. We need to fight more on the final laps. In this sense there are things to improve, both with the bike and myself. We come here off the back of a race in which we took points from the leader, and we must continue like this, working in the same way».
